He Really Does Exist
Slim McGinn’s Irish Pub was opened in 1995 at its present site in the Historic Fifth Ward by R.J. “Slim” McGinn (yes, he really exists). Slim, a native Milwaukeean, graduated from Marquette University and then realized his true calling was to spend the rest of his life in a bar. Along the way, Slim honed his skills at such Milwaukee institutions such as The Avalanche (still misses that place), Kalt’s, Saz’s, 4th Base, Sam Dooley’s, Derry’s and The Harp (doesn’t miss that place). There were more too! Finally, it was time to strike out and make a go of it - a tiny kitchen and a bar not much bigger, and Slim McGinn’s Irish Pub was born.
Cream City Brick
The building is a beautiful Cream City 1905 Pabst Brewery-built pub and has been in (nearly) continuous operation for over 100 years. While retaining the original historic character with the original bar, maple floors and tin ceiling, Slim McGinn’s has also expanded and updated over the last decade to offer you a comfortable spot in any of its rooms. They have fifteen televisions, a laptop and free wireless internet service to keep you connected. Slim McGinn’s has a year-round patio with a bar as well as a large outdoor patio open during the summer months. Our Cream City brick-walled party room is located upstairs and has plenty of windows, seating for 65 and a private bathroom.
Delicious Food and Beers
Our food menu features everything from fresh salads to sandwiches to steaks and crab legs. Our daily specials are popular with our neighbors and friends from all over town. We offer carryouts and also in-house catering. We think you will find our liquid offerings equally impressive, as our professional bartenders serve up fantastic mixed drinks, wine and beers. Our tap system includes 16 beers as well as draft root beer.
What a Location
Because of our proximity to Summerfest and downtown, Slim began offering free shuttle service in his van, lovingly known as the ‘Slimousine’. While that original beauty is now sadly out of service, we continue to offer shuttles in any of our other three 15 seat buses. These Slimousines can also be rented with a driver for your special private event, so please ask.
