The Year According to Slim...

A typical year starts with NFL & NCAA championship football on TV, leading up to Superbowl Sunday - lots of fun and food. Winter brings Slimousine trips to see the Bucks, Warriors (being a 1978 MU graduate they’ll never be Golden Eagles) and Panthers, with hopes of all continuing into post season tournaments. Even if they don’t make it, NCAA Basketball brings out the fans and fun at Slim’s. Which brings us to the High Holy Day (no not Easter) - St. Patrick’s Day!

As my friend Derry always said, if St. Patrick’s Day was once a month, we’d only be open 12 days a year! Hopes of spring then taunt us with the anticipation of opening the outside patio for graduations, retirements, showers and rehearsal dinner parties.

Every Memorial Day we hold a fund raiser in the street to benefit the Irish Cultural & Heritage Center with Irish bands, raffles and an auction. Summer starts off with our Anniversary party (free lunch & dinner with a raffle to raise money for ABCD) in early June, then finishing the month with Summerfest (where we have a booth – come and say hello!).

Summer continues with ethnic festivals & Wisconsin State Fair (we also have a presence at State Fair & Irish Fest). Summer ends with our golf outing (always the last Monday of August) as we head into fall & the watching of our beloved Packers.

It isn’t long til we have basketball back with Slimo rides to all. At the close of the year we have our Thanksgiving for Orphans where we offer complementary turkey & trimming for those who have nowhere to go (or who just prefer to spend time with the finest, as we like to think of it).

Early December brings us our Annual Christmas party (again free lunch and dinner, with a raffle for a charity). It’s a busy month while we host many a company Christmas party. As a special Christmas gift, we offer free Christmas wrapping of all your presents on Christmas Eve from noon to 4. (How cool is that?!  Come and relax with a drink and a sandwich and let us worry about the paper and the bows.)

We end out the year with a bang (literally) when we celebrate our traditional Irish New Year - our celebratory toast is at 6pm [midnight in Ireland] - with live Irish music and complementary buffet.

Whew! And here I thought I’d just be sitting at the bar having a good old time when I started all this!
